Eid-ul-Adha 2017

Eid-ul-Adha will be on Friday 1st September 2017 insha’Allah.

Eid jamaat will be at 830 AM (City Jami’ Masjid, M12 4DT).

Important dates:

– 8th Dhul Hijjah/Start of Hajj: Wednesday 30th August.

– Day of Arafah (Yawm ul Istighfar or Yawm ur Rahmah): Thursday 31st August

– Eid al-Adha / Yaum an-Nahr: Friday 1st September

The first ten days of the month of Dhul Hijjah are great in virtue and it is from the Sunnah to increase in worship and good deeds; especially fasting on the Day of Arafah.

Abu Qutadah (ra) reports that the Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasallam) was asked about fasting on the Day of Arafah. He said, “It expiates for the sins of the previous year and of the coming year.” (Muslim)

Ramadhan in the Marquee 2005

Alhamdulillah, many of you have been joining us each day for Taraweeh in our beautiful, purpose-built masjid (City Jami’ Masjid). We thought we would share something from the archives which many of you will remember well.

In 2005 The Islamic Academy of Manchester (formerly at Upper Brook st) was closed for 3 months as the council deemed the roof of the adjoining former Welsh Baptist Church unsafe and demolition work was carried out to remove the roof. Ramadan was fast approaching and there was concern about loss of prayer facilities during this important time. Alhamdulillah, following negotiations the council arranged for a marquee to be erected in the car park of the academy and the marquee was used throughout Ramadhan of that year. It was a real experience especially doing wudhu in the portable units with freezing cold water during October and November!

Below are some photos from 2005.
