Position on Mosque Opening – City Jamia Masjid

We pray you are all well. Further to the recent announcement by the Government with regard to places of worship being allowed to open for individual prayer from 15th June 2020, we would like to inform you that City Jamia Masjid will remain closed until we are permitted to perform congregational prayers. There are numerous risks to opening early and the benefits of congregational prayer will not be possible with the guidance issued for 15th June. We are working hard to ensure that we are ready for opening in July with all of the measures in place for allowing congregational prayers with social distancing. Insha’Allah this will be by 4th July 2020.

You can see the latest guidance from the government below:

Covid-19 PPE Fund

In collaboration with Manchester Muslims Burial Trust, City Jamia Masjid (Longsight) is one of only 3 masjids in Manchester which is performing funeral rites for Covid-19 deceased. Where possible, City Jamia Masjid will perform ghusl for the deceased. It is vitally important that we keep our staff and volunteers safe with appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Please help us raise money to purchase face masks, protective overalls, eye protection, cleaning products and other much needed essentials. Any surplus equipment will be provided for free to other organisations insha’Allah.

This is a difficult and distressing time for all those that are losing their loved ones to Covid-19. Allow us to assist them by providing Islamic funeral rites which form an essential part of honouring the deceased in our faith.

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, ” Whoever relieves a believer’s distress of the distressful aspects of this world, Allah will rescue him from a difficulty of the difficulties of the Hereafter. ” [Muslim]

Important announcement- Congregational Salah and Activities at City Jamia Masjid

‎السلام عليكم

In the light of the latest government guidance on social distancing to stop the spread of the deadly coronavirus 2019-nCoV (causing COVID-19), it is with extreme sadness that we inform you that City Jami’ Masjid, Manchester will be closed to the public after Fajr salah (5.30 AM) on 21/03/2020 until further notice.

There will be no access to the masjid at any given time and no classes or other activities will be held until further notice.

This is in line with scholarly and government advice and guidance, which has already been implemented in most major masajid across the country. See, for example, the full statement from Coordination Council of Mosques published on 18th March:

We request all brother to keep the masjid and the ummah in your du’as and do as much repentence as you can.

This is a big test. We pray that Allah (SWT) keeps the Ummah safe and protects all our Islamic institutions.
