Ramadhan in the Marquee 2005

Alhamdulillah, many of you have been joining us each day for Taraweeh in our beautiful, purpose-built masjid (City Jami’ Masjid). We thought we would share something from the archives which many of you will remember well.

In 2005 The Islamic Academy of Manchester (formerly at Upper Brook st) was closed for 3 months as the council deemed the roof of the adjoining former Welsh Baptist Church unsafe and demolition work was carried out to remove the roof. Ramadan was fast approaching and there was concern about loss of prayer facilities during this important time. Alhamdulillah, following negotiations the council arranged for a marquee to be erected in the car park of the academy and the marquee was used throughout Ramadhan of that year. It was a real experience especially doing wudhu in the portable units with freezing cold water during October and November!

Below are some photos from 2005.

Taraweeh Prayers at City Jami’ Masjid

Important Notice

Due to the timing of Taraweeh prayers (Esha 11 PM) we kindly request that you are extremely mindful of neighbours when coming to and from the masjid. It is very late by the time we complete the prayers and it is important that noise is kept to a minimum, especially if using the South Street entrance.

Please also park sensibly so as not to inconvenience any local residents.

جزاك اللهُ خيرًا
